5 Weird Things Moms Don’t Tell You About Pregnancy

One thing that pregnancy does to you is that it changes your body  – which of course, we all know it’s obvious because our belly gets bigger! But what most moms don’t tell you about is that there are weird changes to your body that no mom speaks about. It’s not until you’re one or two month in that you realize, “Okay, this is weird”.

I had so many “WTH!” moments that I thought I was the ONLY one experiencing it.  It’s only when I searched up my questions on the web that I realized other pregnant moms were asking the same questions.

So here I am, getting ready to tell you the little bits and pieces of information that no mom speaks of. Sometimes, it’s because some moms never experienced it and sometimes it’s because they simply didn’t think about warning you about it!

Either way, it’s always good to be warned. Or even a hint of, “Hey, don’t freak out if your body goes crazy because it will!” would’ve helped me greatly.

Weird Thing #1: Vaginal Discharge May Smell FUNKY!

Since your hormones are changing, you may see more vaginal discharge due to an increased amount of estrogen to the vaginal area. As a result, you may notice a strong FUNKY smell when changing clothes or even having a casual walk. But no worries! You’re not alone. It is actually a common thing among pregnant women to experience this; however, if you do feel that the vaginal odor lasts longer than normal (a week or 2) or if there’s any pain associated, you should consult with your Doctor. Chances are, you might have an infection and it’s always better to get treated before it gets worse.

One amazing product that helped me maintain the vaginal odor was Summer’s Eve Freshening Spray. Just like its name, it’s a spray that is used to maintain vaginal odor that any lady would absolutely love to eliminate! Personally, I love it just because it smells refreshing and it helps me take care of one of my feminine peeves.

Weird Thing #2: Yellow-Stingy Tongue, What is this?!

Unfortunately, one thing I experienced during pregnancy was a yellow-stingy tongue! Or as most people call it, oral thrush. It’s when there is a layer of white lesion on the tongue, inside cheeks, gums, or tonsils. If you look in the mirror, it looks like a thick, yellow layer of who-knows-what.

I remember when I first felt the pain, it was like a weird stinging sensation. Eventually, it felt sore and even bled when I brushed my tongue! Ouch! Good thing it only lasted for two weeks and eventually went away – which I was thankful for!

This is why it is highly recommended for pregnant mothers to schedule a Dentist appointment. Not only is the purpose just for cleaning teeth, it’s also to make sure there’s no bacteria growing inside the mouth!

Be alert Mamas, it’s always better to be “safe” than “sorry”.

Weird Thing #3: Dark armpits??? Gross!

When the hormones are changing, chances are, your underarm color is too! During my second trimester, I noticed my underarms were getting darker. Which definitely helped me shy away from wearing tank tops in the summer – oh boy those summer days were hot! Even the husband found it unappealing.

I tried two ways to help me lessen my underarm color – and odor!

  • Lemon slices: Cut up a few slices of lemon and rub the juice against your underarm and leave it on for 10-15 minutes. Afterwards, rinse it off with room-temperature water.
  • Potato slices: Cut up a few slices of potato (I used Idaho potatoes), rub it up against your underarm and leave it on for 10-15 minutes. Afterwards, rinse it off with room-temperature water. The goal here is to use the starch from the potatoes and apply it to your underarm.

Repeat either method daily until the dark color whitens.

Here’s a hint: I tried both methods and found that potato slices were more effective than lemon slices.

Weird Thing #4: Bloating

In case you didn’t know, bloating is a common symptom in pregnancy. As your digestive system is slowing down, gas is building up! That’s right!

You may have a moment of, “Did someone just pass gas? Whoops! That was me – unintentionally.”, and even feel embarrassed!

No one likes it and it’s a much-avoided topic to talk about but it’s good for you to know that you’re not the only one who may have “unintentionally” let one out. Your body was uncontrollable and there are several other Mama’s who did the same! Just that no one speaks about it.

I remember during my pregnancy that I had quite a few “oops!” moment. It happened during nighttime, TV time, and work-time (shhh…this one is strictly confidential).

Despite all of this, the best part about it? You can logically blame it on your baby bump! 🙂

Weird Thing #5: Crazy Dreams Can Get Really Cray!

I’ve always been that person who sleeps but never dreams. Or if I did, I wouldn’t remember it! But during my pregnancy, I noticed that I would have weird, crazy dreams. All details were remembered and I feel like if I just made a movie out of it, I’d win the Oscars!

Sometimes I’d have horrifying ones, crazy psychotic dreams, and even “a walk on the meadow” kind of dream! Who knows what I was doing but it sure felt cray. Now if I only invested in a Crazy Dream Collection journal, I could’ve published it as a book!

If you’re like me, I’d suggest you try noting down YOUR dreams. It’d be a great way to remember your pregnancy – which I wish I did with my first one!
